World of YCN

As part of our design for the YCN Book 0809 we introduced an over-arching concept to help explain who YCN are and what they do. We commissioned and art directed model makers Bryony Birkbeck and Kristina Grundberg to make a physical model world with 5 different areas, one for each section of the book. The glue that bound each area of the imaginary world was an dense forest, with each tree embellished by a different member of the YCN network of illustrators and designers, showing the breadth of styles represented.

The different section photographs included a mountain range, celebrating the best talent from the last 12 months as well as a town scene, with lots of different homes, showing an array of different companies that set briefs for the YCN Awards. These photographs were accompanied by two images of completion and destruction of elements from the world for the contents and colophon pages.
